Did you know that when producing fabric softeners they use fragrances that are extremely harmful for the adults and especially for children.
Considering the fact that they contain numerous chemicals, commercial softeners are known to cause allergies and are hazardous to our health. You’ve probably already heard of “don’t put it on your skin, if you can’t put in your mouth”. Fabric softeners go from our clothes to our skin and further in our body and do the damage.
Therefore, when washing especially children’s clothes, try to avoid chemical fabric softeners at any cost.
It has been proven that phthalates are harmful for the balance of hormones in animals and they are often used to obtain scent. Therefore, by using fabric softener, we are not only harming ourselves, but also our loved ones.
For all these reasons it is best to turn to nature and make your own homemade natural fabric softener. The ingredients for this natural softener are simple – essential oils, apple cider vinegar, baking soda and water.
Ingredients:
- 800 ml of apple cider vinegar
- Essential oil (optional) approx 20 drops
- 100 grams of baking soda
- 150 – 200 ml hot water
Preparation:
In a bigger plastic container of approximately 3 to 5 liters combine the vinegar, baking soda and water. And be careful with the chemical reaction of these ingredients. There will be bubbles all over the place.
When the bubbles calm down and the liquid decreases, pour it into a glass jar that you will use as your softener tank.
You can add a few drops of any essential oil that you like, close the bottle and shake it well.
Additional advice:
Always shake before each use. Use 4 tablespoons of this mixture per machine.
