When Luis Ortiz (26) went to the doctor to be examined because of a terrible headache, he was told that he had 30 minutes to live!
Luis Ortiz went to the doctor at the last moment. He had an urgent brain surgery because doctors realized that he would not live long if they waited another minute.
Namely, his headache was caused by a parasite –tapeworm which was discovered with brain scan.
His neurosurgeon Dr. Soren Siegel told Ortiz that he was really close to death and that he was really lucky because at the last moment he went to the hospital.
During the surgery, the surgeons removed the larvae of the parasite that caused cysts in the brain which blocked the flow of water to Luis’s brain and thus saved his life.
Dr. Singel said that these parasites rarely penetrate in the human brain, and that happens through undercooked pork, beef and fish.
After surgery Ortiz lost his memory, but now he is slowly progressing with the help of memory exercises.
