The Best & Worst Sleeping Positions

February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

Sleep is very important part of our everyday lives. Sleep disorder has emerged as a global health concern, in the past few years. In the latest study it has been reported that over 150 million people all over the world are suffering from some kind of sleep disorders. One of the most important causes contributing to a sound sleep is the sleeping position of a person. Sleep disorders are contributing to a greater number of people who are at risk of large health problems and chronic mental disorders which can cause challenges in a person’s relationship and daily life.

The sleeping position is the posture that the body has prior or during sleep. The sleeping position has an enormous impact on the well being  and health of the person. Research has shown that there is a correlation between the personality of an individual and the sleeping position. It has been noticed that the relationships of a person can be affected by the sleeping position. The Best & Worst Sleeping Positions

Best Sleeping Positions:

The three main sleeping positions that have been identified by sleep specialists are: Sleeping on the stomach, sleeping on the back and sleeping on the side. The info graphics that follows show these 3 sleeping positions that a person can assume.

Each sleeping position has its own set of cons and pros.

Sleeping On Your Stomach

This sleeping on the stomach position is not recommended by sleep specialists as it causes great discomfort and increases restlessness to the body. The person usually keeps on turning and tossing to sleep soundly.

Sleeping on your stomach reduces excessive sleep during pregnancy and snoring. This good sleeping posture is likely to cause back and neck pain. It is also known to cause the breasts to sag more and worsen wrinkles. You can sleep on the stomach, but you will need an extremely soft pillow so that your head rests comfortably.

Sleeping On The Back

It has been observed that sleeping on the back prevents neck pain and backaches. It minimizes acid reflux. This position also helps maintain perky breasts in women and minimizes wrinkles. On the other side, sleeping on the back worsens snoring. It has also been observed that sleeping on the back can cause a regular discomfort during normal sleep hours, which might also result in sleep apnea. Those people who prefer to sleep on their back can make some minor changes to this sleeping position which would allow them a sound sleep. They can place a rolled up towel or a soft pillow under the knee to support the natural curve of the body.

Sleeping On The Side

Sleep specialists mostly ask their patients to sleep on the side. Sleeping on the side is considered extremely good for the overall well being and health of a person. It allows the sleeper to experience uninterrupted sleep and allows the body to rest in a comfortable position. Sleeping on the side reduces snoring, prevents back aches and neck pain, improves circulation during pregnancy and minimizes acid reflux. This is the best position to sleep as it helps in alleviating chronic deprivation of sleep and insomnia. On the other side, it causes sagging of the breasts and worsens wrinkles.

“Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long)
so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say,
I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m
still new to everything. Do you have any recommendations for first-time blog writers?
    I’d definitely appreciate it.”
