February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

Honey is regarded as the greatest gift of nature. Its health benefits were known to mankind centuries ago. It is believed that the Egyptian queen Cleopatra, the most beautiful woman in the world at that time, bathed in milk and honey. Honey is used in the cosmetic industry for skin cleaning and moisturizing products. It contains 80% sugar and 20% nutrients such as iron, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin C and B and magnesium. This magical product contains antiseptic and antibacterial ingredients that speed up the process of healing. These compounds also prevent the spread of bacteria by producing enzymes that prevent bacterial infections. Therefore, honey is often used as a natural treatment for wounds, cuts and skin burnt to additionally help the healing process.

10 Benefits of Honey for Skin and Hair

Honey is great for oily skin prone to inflammations. It absorbs excess skin oil secretions and reduces the chances of developing infections and inflammations. Mix one teaspoon of Fuller’s earth with 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Make a thin paste of these ingredients and then apply it on your face. Leave it to act for 20 minutes or until completely dry and then wash it off.

7. It’s perfect for hair

Honey is an excellent hair conditioner. It softens and smoothens your hair. It also improves the health of the hair follicles and the scalp. Add one teaspoon of honey in your shampoo if you have coarse hair. Or, cover your hair in a bathing cap and leave it for 20-30 minutes to allow the body heat to maximize the benefits of honey.

8. It prevents hair loss

A little known fact is that honey can actually help against hair loss. It contains moisturizers that prevent hair falling by inhibiting the reduction of hair root moisture. High amounts of sugar in honey can help maintain moisture and strengthen hair follicles.
