Apple compote – the best recipes how to make it

September 26, 2022 by Valerie Kirwin

While spring and summer are in force, try to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible, because they are a treasure trove of health. If you have space at home, plant a plant, give it time and attention, and it will give you healthy fruits in return, which will be very beneficial to your health.

Apple is often grown in our region, and various home-made products are prepared from it, such as brandy, jam, sweet ali and compote. Compote is extremely healthy, because it is made from fresh fruit, and you can consume it immediately, or prepare it for the winter.

Preparing homemade products for the winter is certainly desirable, although it is easier to go to the store and buy, there is nothing healthier and sweeter than what you have made yourself.

Once upon a time, our grandmothers had a full pantry of home-made products from various types of fruits and vegetables, which is why our ancestors were so healthy and strong. Instead of processed and sweets that are full of additives, sweeten yourself with apple compote and save your health.

Let’s, first, learn how to prepare apple compote. As we mentioned, you can eat it immediately after making it, and you can prepare compote for the winter, and in moments when you miss summer, just go to the pantry and remember the wonderful taste of apples and everything that summer and spring bring with them.

Apple compote for the winter

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 3 kilograms of apples
  • 200 grams of sugar
  • 3 liters of water
  • 3 lemons
  • 2 vanilla or cinnamon sticks

Way of preparation:

First of all, you need to find healthy and ripe apples, preferably organically grown. Why them, there are several reasons. Apples that have been treated with pesticides retain those pesticides for a long time in the skin, but also in the inside of the apple. This would mean that we are introducing these preparations to some extent into our body, thus harming it.

Make sure to always choose products, i.e. plants that are organically grown, because they are much healthier. You can always find healthy, organic apples at the market or from people from the village.

Whether you eat them raw, or process them into some of the domestic products, choose the healthier ones anyway.

Well, now that we have determined which apples are best for preparing compote, it is time for the preparation itself. Therefore, you need to wash the apples well first in order to remove any dirt from the skin, although we will peel the skin, wash the apples anyway.

Then peel them, remove the seeds and clean the petioles, then cut them into equal slices. Squeeze three lemons so that you get their fresh juice, then pour it over the apples, so that they do not darken. Apples oxidize quickly, i.e. change color, and lemon juice will prevent this. This is also important so that the apples keep their beautiful light color, so the compote is more beautiful.

Now you need to make a syrup that will contain apples. Pour sugar into a suitable pan, then pour water and let it cook slowly at a moderate temperature. When the syrup becomes thicker, honey-like, remove from the stove.

Pour a little cinnamon or vanilla into the sterilized jars now, according to taste, then pour in half of the jar of apples. Pour the warm syrup over the apples. Close the jars tightly, then pasteurization follows.

First of all, it is important to sterilize the jars, by placing the washed and wet jars in the oven at 100 degrees to heat and dry them. Just make sure the jars don’t crack, so take them out as soon as they dry, which is usually after about 15-20 minutes.

Then, when you put the compote in jars, it is pasteurized, which also serves to extend the shelf life. As this compote is stored for the winter, it is important to follow all the steps in order to extend the shelf life.

So, when you pour the compote, line up the jars in a suitable baking tray, then put them in the oven heated to 100 degrees. Leave them inside for about 15 minutes, then take them out and wrap them in a blanket. Leave them at daytime temperature to cool down completely, then put them in the pantry.

Once the jar is opened, keep it in the refrigerator, and never expose it to heat or light. An open jar can stay in the fridge for about 5 days.

Apple compote without sugar

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 1 kilogram of apples
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 large lemon
  • Cinnamon to taste

Way of preparation:

People who for some reason cannot or do not want to use sugar in their diet can prepare apple compote without it. To taste, you can add honey or some other sweetener to the compote, although you can also consume it without any sweetener, because it is tasty enough by itself.

To prepare this compote, you need to choose a slightly sweeter apple, because that way the compote will be sweeter and tastier.

The selected apples also need to be peeled, cleaned and cut into equal slices. Immediately put them in a suitable pot, pour water and put them to cook at a moderate temperature. From the moment of boiling, it will be enough to cook the compote for up to 15 minutes, so that the apples soften nicely but so that they do not lose all their good properties.

So, after those 15 minutes, add sliced lemon to the compote, and cinnamon to taste. Stir, then remove from the heat. Cover with a cloth or a lid so that the lemon and cinnamon release their aroma, and the compote cools a little. Then pour it into jars and close them well, then let them cool completely at daytime temperature.

Since there is a smaller amount of compote, you can keep it in the freezer all the time. When pouring into a cup, add a little honey or some aromatic spice for an even better taste.

Apple compote for digestion

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 1 kilogram of apples
  • 1 liter of water
  • Cinnamon to taste

Way of preparation:

Probably the simplest preparation, it only requires you to peel the apples, cut them into slices and mix them with water. In this case, you don’t have to peel the apples, but just wash them well. The peel contains a lot of useful nutrients, as well as fiber that will help your digestive tract digest food well.

Therefore, mix the apples with water and let them cook slightly and soften, about 15 minutes. Do not cook for too long so that the apples do not lose those necessary nutrients. After 15-20 minutes, remove the pan from the heat and add a little cinnamon to taste, which also helps expel excess fat and toxins from the body, as well as cleansing the colon.

It is best to drink or eat the compote prepared in this way while it is warm, and you can leave a certain amount in the refrigerator and drink it during the day. You will notice good results already after the first use.

Apple compote cleans our intestines, promotes good digestion and accelerates metabolism. This encourages weight loss, that is, the elimination of all harmful toxins and excess fat from the body.

Apple compote for babies

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 2 large apples
  • 1 deciliter of water

Way of preparation:

Babies are very sensitive, i.e. their tummies and immune systems in general. While they are developing, it is very important to take care of their nutrition, and coordinate everything necessary.

Apple compote is also recommended for babies, because it is good for their underdeveloped digestive tract. It reduces colic and pain, and at the same time, their stomachs feel full.

Apples also need to be cleaned and then grated on a coarse grater. Pour water over them and let them cook for about 10 minutes. Then strain the compote, and feed your baby while it’s still warm.

You can add other fruits or cereals to the apple compote that your baby can consume, depending on how many months he is.

Apple and quince compote

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 4 large apples
  • 2 quinces
  • 3-4 spoons of sugar
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1/2 lemon
  • Cinnamon, allspice, vanilla to taste

Way of preparation:

Another way to prepare apple compote is to add tasty and fragrant quinces to it. Quinces are also very, very healthy, and especially good for our digestive system. If you have problems with constipation or diarrhea, you should definitely consume this compote as often as possible.

It affects the general health of the organism, and the taste is really very nice, and only its smell can relax us.

Pour water into a suitable pot, then add the lemon cut into slices, as well as the spices you have chosen. You can leave them out, but we recommend at least cinnamon, the taste is much better. Let the water boil, and in the meantime, clean the apples and quinces, and cut them into equal slices.

When the water in the pot boils, add the fruit and let it cook at a moderate temperature. Up to 15 minutes will be enough for the fruit to soften nicely. Remove the pan from the stove and let the compote cool a little, after which you can pour it into glasses and enjoy the taste.

Apple and plum compote

The necessary ingredients for preparation are:

  • 1 kilogram of apples
  • 500 grams of plums
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 1 vanilla sugar
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Cinnamon to taste

Way of preparation:

Plums, just like quinces, are an ideal ally in the fight against irritable bowels, poor digestion and extra pounds. By regularly using this compote, you will help yourself to remove all fats and toxins from the body, and be healthier and fitter!

Peel the apples and plums, remove the pits and cut them into smaller pieces. Pour over them with the juice of one lemon, so that they do not oxidize.

Transfer them to a suitable pot, cover with water, and cook slowly at a moderate temperature. About halfway through cooking, i.e. after five minutes, add sugar and vanilla sugar, stir, then let them continue to cook together.

After about 10 minutes, the compote should be ready. Do not cook something longer because there is no need, it will lose the properties of the fruit, and it will be too soft. So, after 10-15 minutes, remove the pan from the stove and let the compote cool.

After that, feel free to serve it and enjoy the delicious and healthy taste!
