Chapped Lips and Dry Facial Skin: 5 Tips for Healthy Skin in Winter

February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

Our skin is changing constantly. It is very important to know how to take care of the skin depending on the season. The weather conditions in winter have negative effects on our skin, particularly because of the dry air, cold wind and internal heat.

Chapped Lips and Dry Facial Skin 5 Tips for Healthy Skin in Winter

To keep the skin healthy during these months we suggest you to try these tricks:

  1. Apply moisturizer 2-3 times a week

It is important to apply a quality moisturizer during the day and night, but sometimes the skin needs extra hydration, especially in winter. Applying facial mask is an effective way to nourish the skin and keep it healthy during the cold season.

  1. Gently exfoliate your skin 1-2 times a week

Because the skin is dry in this period, it is important to remove dead skin cells so the skin could absorb moisture. Gentle exfoliation is a great idea. After you wash your face, soak a towel in warm water and gently rub the skin with circular movements.

  1. Avoid hot water when bathing

While it is tempting, warm baths and showers can dry your skin even more. Of course you should not take a shower or bathe with cold water, but make sure that the water is not too hot, and try not to stay too long in the bath.

  1. Drink lots of water

Hydration starts from inside, so drinking plenty of water throughout the day is the most effective way to keep the skin healthy. Add fruits or plants for better taste.

  1. Use brush for chapped lips

There is a trick we use for years and is actually effective – when your lips are really dry and chapped use a dry toothbrush and gently rub your lips with it. This will remove the dead skin, and then apply lip balm or greasy cream to keep your lips hydrated.
