Common Mistakes: Putting Drops in Open Eyes, Taking Pills With Food…

February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

– What are the biggest mistakes that people make?

The consumption of drugs in a certain time and in the right way is not easy. Some medications must be consumed on an empty stomach, others after eating, while some shouldn’t be consumed with  juice. However, people often make mistakes and that can have harmful consequences.

Common Mistakes Putting Drops in Open Eyes, Taking Pills With Food...

In the report from 2009, published by the National Institute for Health and Care, was written that half of the prescribed drugs are not consumed properly.

People still do not know that these mistakes can be fatal.

DO NOT CLOSE THE EYES AFTER APPLYING DROPS

The biggest mistake people make: they do not close their eyes after putting drops – says Professor Francesca Kordeiro, consultant ophthalmologist.

-Making pressure with a finger of the internal channel of the eye for about two minutes is ideal – after putting drops the mucus membrane closes and thus prevents the liquid to go into the throat. If you can feel the drops, it means that they have reached your throat and so you have lost most of the dose – she says.

EAT FOOD WHILE YOU TAKE PAINKILLER

Most people take this remedy when they have a headache or feel pain in his chest. The well-known advice is to consume the food in order to avoid stomach problems.

But this is a mistake, says Ingvar Bjarnason, a gastrointestinologist, since then the drug needs 45 minutes to act.

-If you take a medication against headache, you surely want to get rid of the headache quickly. If you take it on an empty stomach you will feel the effects after 15 minutes – the doctor claims.

ONCE YOU PUT SPRAY IN THE NOSE YOU UNCONSCIOUSLY SNUFF IT

People accidentally after applying spray in the nostrils, snuff it.

-In that way the spray ends up into the back part of the throat and it is practically eaten. This is one of the most common reasons why they do not have any effect – said Sophie Farouk, allergy consultant.

She says that you need to breathe normally after putting drops in the nose.

Second mistake people make: closing the one nostril.
