Mint is a very well-known plant in our region, and it is used for the treatment and prevention of many diseases. First of all, colds and flu, and in general it has a very positive effect on the general state of the body.
Mint is most often used to make tea, warm and fragrant, it easily warms us up during cold winter days.
Mint tea can also be drunk in the summer, chilled, with a few more ice cubes. With the addition of a couple of lemon wedges, there is no better refreshing drink.
In addition to iced tea, you can use mint juice – preferably homemade, made by yourself. It is the tastiest just like that, probably because of the effort and love that goes into its preparation. And the preparation is really not complicated, and all that remains is to have good will and the desire to prepare something delicious.
Mint liqueur is also known, which is also very happy to drink on some special occasions. But, let’s learn one by one – homemade mint juice recipes for starters!
It comes in several versions, and we have selected a few of the (us) best. Try it and let us know if we have the same taste ?
Basic recipe
The necessary ingredients for preparing the juice are:
- 300 grams of fresh mint leaves
- 3 kilograms of sugar
- 3 bags of limontus
- 3 liters of water
Preparation procedure:
To begin with, let us mention that, first of all, it is most important that the mint be fresh, because it is necessary to get its real fragrant juice. It would be good if you had mint in your yard or in a pot, because mint that is grown organically is the best, but you can always buy it at the market or in the markets, so…it is what it is. If you are sure that a person is selling organically grown mint then be sure to get it from them.
Well, when you have chosen the mint, make sure that the leaves are undamaged, i.e. healthy, you need to wash it in cold water, in order to remove the dirt that must have accumulated on the leaves.
Leave the washed mint leaves to dry a little, and then cut them into as small pieces as possible. Best with scissors, but you can also use a knife. This is important because this way the mint will release more juice, that is, it will have a much stronger taste.
Place the chopped leaves immediately in a suitable pot or pan, and when you finish chopping, sprinkle the leaves with limontus and add 5 spoons of sugar. Stir to combine, then mash. Then pour 3 liters of water, then cover the pot and let the mint do its thing until tomorrow.
Therefore, the mixture needs to stand like this for 24 hours, and at least 6 hours, so that the mint releases its juice and it becomes much stronger and tasty.
After those 24 hours, strain the mixture. Now add 3 kilograms of sugar to the clear juice obtained and mix well. Cover the pot again and leave the juice for another 24 hours, so that all the sugar dissolves and a fine mint syrup is made. Stir the juice occasionally so that the sugar dissolves faster.
When those 24 hours are up, the juice is done. Just by the smell, you’ll know that the wait was worth it! Pour the finished juice into clean, sterilized bottles, close them well and store them in the pantry.
The juice prepared in this way can be kept for about 2 months, usually a little longer, but it is definitely necessary to always keep it in a darker and cooler place. You can freeze the mint syrup, and if necessary, open the bottle and use the syrup, because it is so safe that it will not spoil. That’s why you can leave half the bottle in the pantry, and freeze the other half and leave it for the winter.
*The great advantage of this juice is that it is without cooking, and as such mint syrup is much healthier. Instead of the specified amount of sugar, you can add less if you think that 3 kg is too much, but it is necessary to add sugar primarily because of the taste, but also because the juice needs to last for a couple of months. That is why limontus is added. If you are in favor of an even healthier version, then follow the following recipe.
Mint juice with honey
The necessary ingredients for preparing the juice are:

Mint juice without sugar is much healthier, however, what is, let’s call it a disadvantage, when it comes to preparing this juice, is that it cannot stand for a long time, but needs to be drunk immediately.
It is prepared very simply, with the help of a blender or stick mixer. Therefore, you need to put the washed mint leaves in a blender, add water and a spoonful (more or less) of honey, and blend everything together for a while.
You can add a couple of ice cubes to the mint juice, in order to get a real refreshing drink. You can also add some other spices to taste, such as cinnamon and the like, but since mint is tasty by itself, it is quite enough. Instead of honey, you can add a little stevia, agave syrup and similar healthy sweeteners.

The necessary ingredients for preparing the juice are:
- 30 nettle leaves
- 30 leaves of fresh mint
- 1 liter of water
- 1 kilogram of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Preparation procedure:
Boil the water and then cool it. Wash the nettle and mint leaves under a stream of cold water to remove the dirt, then put them in chilled water. You can chop them beforehand, because that way the juice will be stronger, and if you don’t like it or you don’t have time, you can also soak the whole leaves.
Certainly, it is necessary for the leaves to stand in water for at least 24 hours, in order to release the juice. After that time, strain the juice, then add sugar and lemon juice to the clear liquid you have obtained. Stir now for several minutes continuously, so that the sugar is completely dissolved.
Let everything stand for a while, about half an hour, and then pour the resulting juice into clean and sterilized bottles. Seal well and store the juice in the pantry or refrigerator, and always keep it there, so that it does not spoil. Be sure to refrigerate the opened bottle and use it within a week.
In this way, mint and nettle syrup is also obtained, which needs to be diluted to taste.

You also need to wash the leaves well, then put them in a blender. Add water and a little honey, or any other sweetener to taste, and blend everything together into a juice. Drink it immediately, because the juice prepared in this way cannot stand for long.
