This diet is based on consuming foods which have low glycemic index (GI). This index is actually the ability of certain foods to increase the amount of sugar in the blood. GI is controlling the insulin and blood sugar level so it is able to regulate overeating and hunger. High blood sugar level may cause various diseases like diabetes for example.
The slow carb diet is quite easy; you just need to eliminate starchy food and anything that contains sugar. You can consume lean protein, legumes and vegetables.
RULES
There are some simple rules you must follow if you decide to be on this diet:
You shouldn’t consume “white” carbs as cereal, potatoes, bread, rice (not even the brown one), fried foods with breading mix, pasta, tortillas and anything white. These foods can make you fat. But there is another good reason to stop consuming these foods and that is- they contain chlorine dioxide, a chemical that bleaches flour and is able to produce alloxan if it is combined with residual protein in most foods. It is proven that Alloxan causes diabetes in lab rats.
Choose the food you eat. Although there are many products in the stores, choose the ones that will not make you fat. Buy 3 or 4 foods in the SCD list and consume them constantly. Some of the foods on this list are:
- Grass-fed beef
- Chicken breast or thigh
- Lentils
- Pork
- Spinach
- Asparagus
- Sauerkraut
- Red beans
Caloric drinks are forbidden. You should drink a lot of water although coffee and tea are allowed but without sugar. If you do not like the taste you can add cinnamon instead of sugar. Soda, milk and fruit juice are not allowed as well. You can drink diet coke but 16 ounces only, every day.
Some people may find this diet too strict, but you can actually make a pause one day every week. You can eat anything you want that single day, from morning until night.
