Many people have different kinds of phobias and there is nothing funny about that. Unfortunately they can prevent individuals from leading a normal life. One of the most common phobias is phobia of spiders.
But a team of scientists from the University of Amsterdam discovered how to defeat this fear in two minutes only. To make this discovery which will help many people to live more peacefully, they needed 45 volunteers who were afraid of spiders
Each one of them had to touch tarantula, and immediately after that, they were given a dose of propranolol, a beta blocker which is used in treating heart diseases and high blood pressure. After that, a miracle happened – in each of them the fear was reduced significantly, and the effect lasted for a year. The trick is that the memory of spider is wiped by amnesia.
This theory was firstly discovered by the neurologist Dr. Joseph Le Du, 15 years ago and he argued that by taking this type of medication amnesia occurs after you activate a bad memory. So far, this method has been explored only in animals. This discovery was published in the journal Biological Psychiatry by Dutch scientists and they believe that this will lead to new ways in treating or deleting traumatic memories and fear – writes Daily Mail.
