Recipe for Homemade Serum with Vitamin C: A Revolutionary Product for Rejuvenation and Pigmentation Removal

February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

Vitamin C is not used only for treatment of flu and colds. Those who frequently use cosmetic products know that serums with high content of vitamin C make your skin tighter, smoother and younger. This trend of including vitamin C in face care products has already become quite popular in America.

The main reason for this is that vitamin C plays a key role for the synthesis of collagen, the protein that gives your skin structure and strength. The newly formed collagen smooths wrinkles and enhances skin condition. In recent years, a number of clinical trials have been done on products containing vitamin C to confirm its effectiveness. All of these found that vitamin C modifies the microstructure of the skin and reduces the depth of wrinkles thus having anti-aging effects on the structural and functional skin damage.

Unfortunately, this serum is really expensive, but there’ s a DIY recipe that can save you lots of money and give you the same if not better results at the same time.

Recipe for a homemade C Serum:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp ascorbic acid powder (pharmacy, bio shops),
  • 3 tsp distilled water,
  • 1 tsp glycerin (pharmacy)
  • 1/4 tsp vitamin E (drugstore, get the smallest packaging – liquid or capsules)
  • dark glass vials, preferably with a pipette (dropper).

Avoid using metal utensils when preparing this serum. Use ceramics, plastic, wooden or glass utensils instead.

Preparation:

  1. Put a teaspoon of ascorbic acid and three teaspoons of distilled water in a cup.
  2. Mix the ingredients with a plastic spoon for about 30-60 minutes (while watching TV for example) or until the crystals of ascorbic acid dissolve completely.
  3. Do not use warm water to melt the vitamin C faster because this will only destroy the serum.
  4. Finally add the glycerin and a teaspoon of vitamin E.

The vitamin E in the serum acts as an extra antioxidant which is also a great stabilizer.

When all the ingredients are mixed together, pour the serum into a dark bottle. Shake well before each use and store in a dark place.

Should you have oily skin, simply reduce the amount of glycerin.

You can also prepare this serum without using glycerin, but in this case, don’t use any vitamin E as it is not water-soluble.

Also, have in mind that this serum is highly prone to oxidation.
