Our ancestors have long known the amazing health benefits of mulberries, which are the new super food according to research. Abounding in nutrients that are important for your body, including iron, riboflavin, vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, phosphorous, and calcium, as well as a significant amount of dietary fiber and a wide range of organic compounds, including phytonutrients, zeaxanthin, resveratrol, anthocyanins, lutein, and various other polyphenolic compounds, this fruit has a great ability to:

  • improve digestive health,
  • lower cholesterol,
  • stimulate weight loss,
  • increase circulation,
  • build bone tissue,
  • boost the immune system,
  • prevent certain cancers,
  • slow down the aging process,
  • lower blood pressure,
  • protect eye health, and
  • improve the overall metabolism of the body.

In addition, dried mulberries contain half the amount of sugar found in other berries, raisins for example. And, it’s not only the fruit that’s health beneficial; the compounds found in mulberry leaf are efficient in regulating blood sugar levels.

Mulberries have also been used as a folk remedy against type 2 diabetes. Abundant in fiber, only a third of a cup of mulberry will satisfy 20% of our daily requirements of fiber.

If these berries are consumed regularly, they will cut down cholesterol levels as well as improve digestion. They also have high antioxidant content.

White mulberries are rich in resveratrol, which is a natural phenol beneficial for treating many types of cancer and heart conditions, according to a study by the University of Texas.

Other health benefits of mulberries include:

  1. Healthy Food

Dried mulberries contain a high amount of protein, vitamins C and K, fiber, and iron. Plus, they’re widely available on the market.

  1. Immune System Support

Mulberries are abundant in alkaloids which activate the white blood cells thus stimulating the function of the immune system.

  1. Source of Antioxidants

As the entire mulberry plant, including the leaves, stems, and fruit, contains antioxidants, this fruit is extremely beneficial in reducing the damage caused by free radicals.

  1. Brain Protection

According to research at Khon Kaen University in Thailand, mulberry has positive effects on male rats with memory impairment and brain damage. Experiments showed that mice that consumed mulberries had better memories and less oxidative stress. However, further research is required before mulberries are declared a cognitive enhancer and neuroprotectant.

  1. Regulates Blood Sugar

Mulberry is believed to contain compounds that regulate blood sugar levels.
