Some people love salty and sweet food and some prefer sour and spicy. There are also people who enjoy consuming bitter food and drinks.
These people usually choose to eat dark chocolate and will never choose to add creamer or milk to their black coffee. If you are one of those people, you should know that a new study has shown that people who prefer black coffee have psychopathic tendencies.
Your Taste Preferences May Show Your Personality
Also if you love double espresso without sugar and you can finish or at least eat 85% of an Ecuadorian chocolate this study is about you.
The study which was performed at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, has shown that your favorite flavors are linked with your personality. More than 950 American adults participated in the study and were about the age of 35. They also made a personality test which measured the following:
- Aggression
- Narcissism
- Sadism
- Psychopathy
- Agreeability
- Openness
- Machiavellianism
- Neuroticism
- Extraversion
- Conscientiousness
Also during the test they were asked about taste preference. Do they love salty, sweet, bitter or sour food? The study has shown that those who love bitter food and drinks have characters which can be linked with malevolent attitude. These bitter items include:
- Celery
- Radishes
- Coffee
- Tonic water
- Beer
Those participants who scored most on psychopathy and sadism were actually those who preferred coffee and bitter taste. Even more, the study showed that the preference for bitter foods is a much better assessment for personality than other taste preferences. The researchers concluded that there is really a connection between the dark side of person’s character and the food and drink preference.
On the contrary, those people who had a high score on being agreeable mostly loved sweet food and drinks rather than bitter one.
So does this mean that we should avoid people who love dark coffee?
The answer is NO. The truth is more complicated than the study. The taste preference cannot truly and completely reveal the true personality of an individual. To conclude, although character and taste are connected, your preference for a certain type of food cannot reveal much!
