Beluga caviar is officially the most expensive food in the world. One can costs about 38 000 USD. Beluga caviar is caviar consisting of the roe of the beluga sturgeon Huso huso, which can be found only in the Caspian Sea. This fish needs even 20 years to reach maturity, and its roe is the most expensive of all roes that are used for caviar. It is usually black.

This is the most expensive coffee in the world; one kilogram costs over 1000 dollars. It is produced in Sumatra and is named by the Asian palm civets. These animals live in coffee trees and eat the ripe fruit, then defecate, in which process the seeds pass a certain stage of digestion and are cleaned and processed, and in this way this luxury coffee is made.

They swallow the whole fruit, which during its way through the digestive tract undergoes certain chemical and fermentation processes.

In the belly of these animals the stomach juice removes the sharp edges and some caffeine and proteins that give the coffee a bitter taste, and through the feces they release greenish coffee beans. Once they are well cleaned and dried in the sun, the beans are fried like any other coffee. Those who have tried it say that tastes like chocolate and caramel.

Saffron

During the Middle Ages, saffron is often used as a spice in the noble houses – when a household used saffron when preparing meals, it was clear that it was a wealthy family. Since then, no significant changes occurred when it comes to using this spice. Saffron today is also a privilege and is used by those with deeper pockets.

The most expensive spice in the world got its name from the Persian word “za’faran”, which means “be yellow.” One kilogram of the spice costs 1,000 euros and even more.

One reason why this spice is so expensive is its supply. For one kilogram of the spice saffron it is necessary to grow between 110 and 170 thousand flowers. But it is not the only difficulty. Saffron can be harvested only once a year during flowering, a period of 2 weeks. The biggest producers are from Spain and Iran, covering over 80% of world production, while smaller amounts of this spice are produced in Turkey and India.

Black truffle mushrooms

Royal mushroom, as it is called, is very rare, so it’s one of the reasons why it is sold for 5,000 euros per kilogram. Opinions are divided on whether truffle is food or spice.

This mushroom has a very distinctive smell and is thought to be a very strong aphrodisiac. It is recently proven by Italian scientists, who confirmed that the truffle contains pheromones, chemicals that are found in the human body, and which boost the sexual activity.

Despite the exceptional taste truffle is known for its healing properties thanks to even 22 amino acids it contains.

It is known as “brain food” because it restores the gray cells and thus improves the learning ability, memory, concentration and mental endurance.
