You Can’t Afford Organic Food? Here are 10 Foods that You Can Eat and Be Healthy!

February 8, 2019 by Valerie Kirwin

If you cannot afford organic foods, you can choose the ones that are non-organic and healthy.

There is a high demand for organic foods and therefore are more and more offered on the market. Foods without chemicals, pesticides and other toxins have become the most wanted produces. But, as are required, they are  expensive as well. Not everyone can afford it. That is why the organization Environmental Working Group made a list of non-organic fruits and vegetables that are safer to be consumed than others.

So, although you cannot afford organic foods, you can choose the ones that are non-organic but healthy. This is a list of 10 safe non-organic foods:

  1. Purple Onion

Studies have shown that only a few, even less than one percent of these foods contain pesticides. Because the pests do not like red onions, they do not even need to be treated like some vegetables.

  1. Pineapple

The thick pineapple bark, which is inedible, protects the interior or the edible part of the fruit from pesticides and poisons. So the part that is contaminated ends up in the trash bin and the healthy and clean part ends up in your mouth.

  1. Avocado

Just as with pineapple, thick bark protects the interior from contamination.

  1. Purple cabbage

The cabbage does not require excessive care. It is not necessary to be treated with chemicals, so it is safe to be consumed.

  1. Peas

Thanks to their armor – the pea pod, peas are safe and healthy.

  1. Asparagus

As the onions, asparagus does not attract pests, so it is not sprayed with chemicals.

  1. Mango

The thick skin protects the inside from harmful chemicals. But the fruit still needs to be thoroughly washed before consumption.

  1. Tomato

It is still unclear why the tomatoes are less chemically treated than other vegetables. Some speculate that it is because of the peel. The thick and smooth peel can act as a protective barrier. Whatever it is, the tomato is among vegetables that are safe to eat.

  1. Kiwi

Its fibrous, dull greenish-brown skin protects the interior from pesticides. However, wash before eating it.

  1. Sweet potatoes – batata

Sweet potato is among the vegetables that are less treated with pesticides and it is extremely healthy.
